As the children in Myanmar don’t have much experience in reading books written in their own language (Burmese) and using the library, an education for children’s training and development of their reading habits was processed in cooperation with Dhavie, Myanmar education NGO, from May 2nd to May 4th, 2017.
The subject of this education was ‘Library’. The beginning was the children present in person the definition and images of the library from their point of view, which is to stimulate their self-interest. After that, we also had time to discuss how to use the library and what kinds of education had better be provided in the library.
On the second day, they listened to the lecture on how to search for books and arrange them, and tried to exercise it by themselves. On the last day, various activities available there were processed. They did not only borrow and read books but also drew pictures, made things, and talked about books with the teachers together.
Even though they felt the education for 3 days was too short, it was rewarding time for them because they could learn about the library in more detail. They also promised to practice what to learn from the teachers in the library in SCM.
It is really expected that the children establish reading habits, express their own thought in writing and become more active in the SCM Library.
Sharing Hope Together!
