World Citizen Education
March already passed by and April with a fragrant scent of spring has arrived! In Myanmar, the weather is getting hot and flowers are blooming.
Have you ever heard about the word ‘world citizen’? It seems that some have, but some haven’t yet. We did some activities with children to make them understand what a world citizen is. They were first unfamiliar with the word “a world citizen” but could get the idea as they participated in the activities we prepared!
The activities proceeded with 3 divided groups. Team A was a country which was rich with natural resources but plagued with terrorism, Team B, which had an average amount of natural resources but prevalent with discrimination, and Team C which lacked natural resources. The teams worked together to build a village on a large paper under their different situations. We learned how difficult it is and how to cooperate together in order to build a country through activities like waving the paper and experiencing different kinds of discrimination.
During the activities, children built villages that proudly expressed their own individualities and took pictures together. Boys built football stadiums and girls built beautiful gardens! Team B built airports and airplanes, which grabbed our attention!
We hope that the children will grow as great world citizens as we do more and more world citizen activities together.
Sharing Hope Together!
