3rd Global Citizenship Education
Global Citizenship Education is coming to an end. Now that it is the third time, children know what the content will be and expect what kind of activity they will be doing.
Today we watched a video called “DNA Journey” on YouTube. It showed that although we live in varying countries and have differing racial backgrounds, we are not just a citizen of a certain country but a world citizen. The video was an opportunity for Myanmar students who are accustomed to having differing ethnic cultures to feel closer to each other!
After watching the video, the students learned how one can influence and be connected to the other person. They thought of other words that were associated with a given word, and tried to connect them one by one. They started with the same word "Earth," but the end words were all different. This showed that even distant words or concepts could actually be connected.
The students also learned about the importance of connection by attaching threads together. After connecting them all, they waved the single long strand of thread in turn. There was one person, or team, who moved, but the shaking was passed on to everyone. They could directly experience that everyone had an influence on each other. The children then had time to express their feelings and share their thoughts about the activities they had done.
The students are becoming more confident and comfortable expressing their thoughts, empathizing with and understanding others in front of others! This truly shows that they are becoming global citizens.
